The NAWC Preceptor Program
The NAWC is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of excellence in wound care through the certification of wound care practitioners. NAWC is proud to announce a new way to earn WCC certification. This new certification option allows licensed healthcare clinicians who have a strong passion for healing wounds, but do not have two years of wound care experience, to earn the WCC credential. This is a four week program consisting of one week in a classroom setting followed by three weeks with a wound care certified preceptor in the clinical setting. Details of the program can be found on the NAWC website at www.nawccb.org.
“This additional pathway to WCC certification is wonderful news for the more than 12,000 WCCs who have a passion for wound care. They now have the opportunity to ‘share their talents and give back’ by providing a preceptorship to new WCC candidates who wish to earn their certification,” said Debbie Hecker, RN MBA WCC, Executive Director.
The WCC Clinical Preceptor is an individual who will be the teacher/mentor for candidates wishing to receive their WCC certification. This individual is a licensed healthcare professional holding at least one of the following credentials: WCC, CWCN, CWON, CWOCN or CWS. The preceptor must have two (2) years of clinical wound care experience in the last five (5) years and must have been certified in wound care for at least one (1) year. The preceptor must also work currently in a wound care setting in either acute care, outpatient care, home care or long term care. The WCC Clinical Preceptor will introduce the WCC candidate to all the wound care scenarios that would pertain to the scope of the candidate’s specific licensure. Please contact the NAWC at 1-877-922-6292 to learn more about the program.
