National Alliance of Wound Care Announces Winners of the 2010 WCC Achievement Awards and Scholarship
Glendale Wisconsin, August 17, 2010- The NAWC Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the fourth annual WCC Achievement Awards and Scholarship. The awards and scholarship will be presented in person to the winners at this year’s (WOW) Wild on Wounds Conference being held at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas September 23rd -25th.
“The accomplishments of each winner clearly illustrate the passion for wound care shared by our fine group of WCCs. We especially want to acknowledge and thank everyone who submitted nominations for this year's awards," said Debbie Hecker, Executive Director of the NAWC.
OUTSTANDING RESEARCH IN WOUND CARE went to Christine Fanelli MS, NP-BC, CWS, WCC

Formulated a pressure ulcer prevention program
- Helped develop the Long Island Wound Healing Association

Collaborated with Dr. Charles LaRosa MD, FACS to create a protocol for pyoderma gangrenosum
-
Protocol resulted in an Abstract at SAWC and was published in Wounds, March 2010
OUTSTANDING WORK IN DIABETIC WOUNDS went to Kulbir Dhillon NP, WCC

Runs the Wheaton Franciscan Health System Wound Clinic
- Voluntarily trains on proper wound care documentation for nursing homes
- Serves as a wound care and diabetic wound resource to physicians in and outside the Wheaton Franciscan Health System

Treats diabetic patients and educates both patients and staff on proper foot care
WCC SCHOLARSHIP went to Maren Zinski RN, BSN

Education a priority, as evidenced by acquiring BSN three years after RN licensure

Serves as the “wound nurse” for Northern Lights Services, Inc.

Provides wound care education and leadership to peers and other professionals

- 2 year chairperson for “The Wound Care Project” of the Nurses Quality Forum at Kaiser Permanente

Volunteered in 2006 with the International Wound Care Training Project at Sheer Memorial Hospital in Banepa, Nepal
