What is a WCC /
 DWC Practitioner?

A WCC /DWC practitioner is a healthcare professional who has made a choice to advance his/her knowledge in wound care. This is demonstrated by years of experience, a desire to become certified, attending extensive wound care training and passing a certification examination. This knowledge base is a voluntary personal desire to deliver the highest quality of wound care available in the United States. The DWC is an advanced certification in the specialty of diabetic wounds. 

How do a WCC / DWC function?

A WCC / DWC has many functions related to skin and wound care management including:

  • Review of wound treatments for effectiveness

  • Assessment of potential for healing

  • Perform risk assessment for potential skin problems

  • Review environmental and nutritional factors that may impede healing of wounds

  • Recommend treatments and supportive equipment to improve wound healing

  • Provide education regarding skin and wound care management to patients and healthcare workers

  • Assist in wound care product selection based on individual need, cost, and reimbursement

  • Work with other members of the health care team in the planning of overall care to promote healing
