NAWCO CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE EDUCATION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA ***List is not impacted by Beta exam***

CERTIFICATION:

The Certification Committee of the NAWCO is the governing body for all credentials.

NAWCO is not an education provider. Please direct questions about the course to the selected education provider.

“The NAWCO Certification Committee does not accredit, approve, endorse, or recommend any education or training programs and/or products designed or intended to prepare candidates for WCC Certification. The Committee has no involvement in the development or delivery of such programs or products.”

NAWCO offers the Certification Examinations to measure the academic and technical competence of eligible candidates in the area of wound, lymphedema, diabetic, ostomy, and nutritional management beyond their basic knowledge.

The Certification Committee provides criteria that must be met by any acceptable course.

  • The course must be relevant to the Certification Exam domains
  • The course can be delivered online or onsite
  • A single course must meet the minimum hours of coursework noted in the Candidate Handbook to qualify for each specific credential.

COURSE REVIEW:

Education providers must contact NAWCO and request a review of the program that will be offered.

Material submitted by Education providers will be reviewed by the Executive Director and at least one Certification Committee Member or Committee Approved SME. Materials to be submitted include course workbooks, presentations, access to online self-paced content, handouts, and supplemental resources.

If the material meets the requirements established by the certification committee, the provider will be notified via email and listed on the website as a provider whose content meets the criteria. Students who complete the reviewed course will be permitted to take the selected Certification Examination.

EDUCATION PROVIDERS:

To receive credit, the CH/CPEUs must be from an accredited provider of continuing nursing/physician/therapy/dietitian education. The educational program must be approved/accredited by either the state board governing your primary license (or any state board governing the professional license type under which you practice), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC®), American Physical Therapy Association, (APTA®) , Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) ,Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME®), American Medical Association (AMA®), or the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR®).
